Govt. Degree College R.S.Pura

Named after a famous Dogra ruler Maharaja Ranbir Singh, Ranbir Singh Pura is famous for the International Border Suchetgarh and Gharana Wetland, where famous Siberian Cranes and other birds congregate to celebrate New Year and winter. It is a place bestowed with a high fertile soil and that is why it is called the rice bowl of J&K. But in educational field it has its own benchmark – a Degree College – a long cherished dream of its inhabitants materialized in the year 2005. It is nearly 22 Kms south of the Jammu city. It is established in the first phase of the state educational policy to open Colleges at Tehsil and Sub-District level. This step of Government has facilitated the quality education at the doorstep of the people residing in the peripheries. In its conception it was working in the premises of Govt. Higher Secondary School R.S. Pura, but now the College is presently functioning in newly constructed premises adjacent to the same School. It was inaugurated by the then Honourable Minister for Higher Education Thakur Gulchain Singh Charak on 22nd of June 2008.
Initially it began with a meager strength of B.A. Part-I in 2005 but now the strength of B.A. Part-I has touched more than three hundred students. Shortly the College is going to commence the Science stream and additional subjects.
The College has a well-equipped Computer Laboratory with Internet facility. This facility has connected students with the outer world. Now they have an access to the world’s treasure of knowledge and can update themselves with the changing scenario. The College also has a well-stocked Library.
Govt. Degree College, R.S. Pura has another milestone of achievement in its initial years i.e. A Career-Counseling Cell, which helps and guides them for the National Level Competitive Exams
